The role of streaming server is to stream Audio/Video streams to the end user. Unicast Streaming Server The unicast server uses connection-oriented protocols to maintain the QOS. The unicast server offers RTSP controls with fast forward and rewind functions. It gives user the trickplay experience like using a DVD player. Multicast Streaming Server The multicast servers deliver multicast streams in multicast enabled networks. The multicast streaming mode shares the same stream among all users on the network, thus conserving a huge bandwidth costs. It is ideal for running IPTV channels in a multicast enabled network. Applications of Streaming Server The unicast streams are mostly used for "On demand" content. It is also used for Live TV where the network is not "Multicast Enabled". The multicast streams are used for "Live TV" on supported IP networks. |
